In 1925, a 125-acre field was allocated for the training of Pennsylvania National Guard pilots

In 1927, the Philadelphia Municipal Aviation Landing Field was officially established.
The project remains more or less dormant during the great depression.

It was not until 1937 that the first terminal was built.

The original terminal was moved in the 1980s to allow for the extension of the runways.
