Overview
Los Angeles 1935
In 1928, the Los Angeles City Council selected 640 acres in the south part of Westchester as the site of a new airport for the city. The fields of wheal, barley and lima beans were converted into dirt landing strips without any terminal building. Mines Field officially opened as Los Angeles Airport in 1930. In 1941, it changed its name to Los Angeles Airport and later in 1949 to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
